Everytime I download a picture for my desktop, is has to stretch it to fit the screen, and it loses its resolution. Where can I get pictures to fit my screen and still look good?

I can e-mail pictures but when I drag pictures to picture tray and then send the e-mail the tag I have with the picture doesn’t go.
